The Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC), later known as the East Pakistan Agricultural Development Corporation, was established by the Agricultural Development Corporation Ordinance, 1961 (E.P. Ordinance XXXVII,1961). In 1975, BADC was renamed as Bangladesh Agricultural Input Supply and Services Corporation (BAISSC) as it was considered to be different in terms of operations from other agricultural sector development institutions of the government. But in 1976, BAISSC was renamed BADC. As an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Agriculture, BADC is based in Dhaka city but its scope of services is spread throughout Bangladesh. There is a wide network of field offices up to the upazila level, and even in some cases in more remote areas.

One wing of BADC is micro irrigation wing. The functions of the Micro Irrigation Wing are to ensure the supply of irrigation water at the farmer level. Sustaining agricultural production by providing irrigation water. Also to eliminate waterlogging by re-digging canals and ensure equitable distribution of irrigation water to agricultural land. At present hydraulic structures are being constructed at various places to facilitate the transportation of agricultural crops. ALP continues to be set up for surface water use.
